Airbnb photo size

Airbnb asks for photos of at least 1,024 × 683 pixels and recommends at least 1,200 × 800. Bigger is better, with files up to about 10 MB. The resizer exports 1,920 × 1,280 (3:2).

Airbnb photo checklist

  • Shoot horizontally; Airbnb says landscape shows a space better than portrait
  • Include at least one photo of every room or space guests can use
  • Put your best five photos first; Airbnb says they matter most
  • Keep the cover photo's subject centred, because search results crop it

Vrbo photo size

Vrbo asks for at least 1,024 × 683 pixels and ideally 3,840 × 2,160 or higher, in JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or SVG. The resizer exports up to 3,840 × 2,160 (16:9).

  • Upload at least six unique photos; fewer for more than 30 days can mean suspension
  • Prefer horizontal photos; vertical ones are accepted but display less well
  • Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPEG before uploading
  • Use large originals so photos stay sharp on big screens

Booking.com photo size

Booking.com recommends at least 2,048 × 1,080 pixels, preferably 4,000 × 3,000. Extranet uploads must be JPEG or BMP, at least 300 × 300 and no larger than 1.3 MB; 2,048 × 1,536 is ideal. The resizer exports 2,048 × 1,536 (4:3) and compresses each file to fit 1.3 MB, telling you if one can't.

Booking.com photo checklist

  • Shoot landscape only, as Booking.com asks
  • Upload at least 10 photos, including four per room or unit and one bathroom
  • Keep every file under 1.3 MB for the extranet
  • Complete content, photos included, raises your property page score

Craigslist photo size

We found no photo size limits in Craigslist's help; it suggests resizing or using a .jpg file if an upload fails. The resizer exports 1,200 × 900 JPEGs kept under 2 MB (our choice) to help uploads succeed.

For your own DirectBookingHost booking site, the resizer exports 2,400 × 1,800 (4:3) JPEGs kept under 2 MB. 4:3 is a phone camera's own shape, so most photos keep everything; your site then crops each spot itself (wide heroes, 3:2 cards, 4:3 galleries). It's large enough for full-width hero photos on retina screens and light enough for fast pages and link previews. Your site makes the smaller sizes for phones automatically.

Using the tool

Is the photo resizer free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. You can process up to 30 photos at a time and run it again as often as you like. It's made by DirectBookingHost, which helps hosts take commission-free bookings on their own website; the resizer is a free tool for any host, whether or not you use our platform.
Do I need an account or email address?
No. You don't need an account, an email address or a payment method. Open the page, add your photos and download the results. Nothing about your photos is saved, so there's nothing to log in to.
How many photos can I resize at once?
Up to 30 photos per batch. That limit keeps the tool fast and stable on phones, because every photo is processed on your own device. For a bigger listing, download the first batch, clear it and add the next 30.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on phones, tablets and computers. JPEG, PNG and WebP work everywhere; iPhone HEIC photos open in Safari 17 or later, and in any browser on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. On an older phone, large batches take longer, so try smaller batches if it feels slow.
What does Auto-enhance change?
Auto-enhance gently corrects colour cast, brightness and contrast, adds a little local contrast and colour, and lightly sharpens. It's off by default, and you can compare original and enhanced with the slider before downloading. It doesn't straighten verticals, remove objects, replace skies or change what's in the photo.
Can Auto-enhance make a photo look worse?
It's deliberately gentle, but it can. Photos that were already professionally edited, or that rely on warm evening light, sometimes look better as they are. That's why enhancement is off by default and you can turn it on photo by photo. Use the slider to compare, and only keep it where it helps.
Why doesn't it enlarge small photos?
Enlarging a small photo adds pixels without adding detail, so it looks soft and gains nothing. If a photo is smaller than a platform's target, the resizer keeps its original size and tells you if it falls below that platform's stated minimum or recommendation. For the sharpest listing, use the original file from your camera rather than a copy downloaded from a listing site.

Formats and HEIC

Why won't a listing site accept my iPhone photos?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and the listing platforms document JPEG and other formats but not HEIC. Vrbo, for example, lists JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and SVG. Open this page in Safari 17 or later (or any browser on iOS 17 or later), add your HEIC photos, and every download is a standard JPEG: Vrbo lists JPEG, Booking.com's extranet takes JPEG, and Craigslist suggests .jpg files.
What is HEIC, and how do I convert it to JPEG?
HEIC is the space-saving photo format iPhones use by default. To convert, open this page in Safari 17 or later (Mac, iPhone or iPad), add your HEIC photos and download: every export is a JPEG. The resizer uses the browser's own HEIC support, so Chrome and Firefox on desktop can't open HEIC; there, convert first or use Safari.
Which file formats can I add?
JPEG, PNG and WebP in any current browser, plus HEIC/HEIF where the browser supports it (Safari 17 or later, and browsers on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later), up to 50 MB and 50 megapixels per photo. Every download is a JPEG, a format Vrbo, Booking.com and Craigslist all name in their help. Transparent areas in PNG or WebP files become white, because JPEG has no transparency.
Will converting and resizing lose quality?
Every JPEG save involves some compression, but the resizer starts at a high quality setting and only lowers it when a file would exceed a platform's size limit. It also never enlarges photos, so it doesn't add blur, and you can check every photo in the preview before downloading.

Airbnb photos

What size should Airbnb photos be?
Airbnb asks for at least 1,024 × 683 pixels and recommends at least 1,200 × 800 pixels; the resizer exports 1,920 × 1,280 pixels, which is our choice above that recommendation. The Airbnb photo size section above lists the sources and a checklist.
What aspect ratio does Airbnb use?
Airbnb's help doesn't state a required ratio, but it recommends horizontal photos, which show a space better than vertical ones. Landscape 3:2 matches most camera photos, so the resizer uses it for Airbnb and shows you the crop before you download.
Why do my photos look blurry on Airbnb?
Usually because the file was small or already heavily compressed before upload, such as a photo saved from a messaging app or downloaded from another listing. Start from the original camera file, upload at least the recommended size and avoid re-saving JPEGs many times. The resizer saves each photo once, at high quality.
How does Airbnb crop the cover photo?
Airbnb crops photos in search results, and its own help pages describe that crop differently. Keep the main subject near the centre of your cover photo so it survives whatever crop is applied, and check it in the Airbnb app after uploading. The resizer's crop preview shows the 3:2 export, not every crop Airbnb applies later.
How many photos should an Airbnb listing have?
Airbnb's help doesn't give a number, but it advises at least one photo of every room or space guests can use, and it says the first five photos are the most important. Put your strongest, brightest shots first.

Vrbo photos

What size should Vrbo photos be?
Vrbo asks for at least 1,024 × 683 pixels and says 3,840 × 2,160 pixels or higher is ideal; the resizer exports up to that size when your original is large enough. With Auto-enhance on, very large photos come out slightly smaller. See the Vrbo photo size section above for sources.
Does Vrbo accept portrait photos?
Yes. Vrbo says vertical photos are acceptable but horizontal ones display best. The resizer crops to 16:9 landscape for Vrbo, so check the crop preview for tall shots like staircases or bathrooms, and consider shooting those rooms horizontally.
How many photos does Vrbo require?
At least six unique photos. Vrbo warns that a listing with fewer than six photos for more than 30 days can be suspended indefinitely. Most hosts add many more than the minimum so guests can see every room.

Booking.com photos

What resolution does Booking.com need?
For extranet uploads, Booking.com asks for JPEG or BMP files of at least 300 × 300 pixels, ideally 2,048 × 1,536 pixels, and no larger than 1.3 MB; it recommends at least 2,048 × 1,080 pixels. The Booking.com photo size section above has the details and sources.
Why does Booking.com say my photo is too large?
Booking.com's extranet accepts photos up to 1.3 MB, and full-size phone photos are often several megabytes. The resizer lowers JPEG quality step by step, and if needed the dimensions, to bring each Booking.com export under 1.3 MB, and tells you if a photo still can't fit.
Can I use vertical photos on Booking.com?
Booking.com asks for landscape (horizontal) photos only. The resizer crops every Booking.com export to 4:3 landscape, and the crop preview shows what's kept. For rooms you'd naturally shoot vertically, step back and shoot horizontally instead.
Do photos affect my Booking.com property page score?
Yes, photos are part of the content that makes up your property page score. Booking.com says properties with a 100% score get up to 18% more bookings than those with incomplete content. It also recommends at least 10 photos, including at least four per room or unit and one of the bathroom.

Craigslist and other sites

What size photos work best on Craigslist?
We found no size limits in Craigslist's help. It suggests resizing a photo, or using a .jpg file, if an upload fails. The resizer exports 1,200 × 900 pixels JPEGs kept under 2 MB — our choice, small to help uploads succeed. The first image you upload is the one shown when people browse, so put your best shot first.
Can I use these photos on my own website?
Yes. Photo quality and shooting tips

Should I shoot listing photos in landscape or portrait?
Landscape. Airbnb and Vrbo both say horizontal photos display best, and Booking.com asks for landscape only. Landscape shots also crop cleanly to every platform's format, which the resizer relies on.
What order should listing photos go in?
Lead with your strongest image, usually the main living space or the view, then follow the way a guest would walk through: living areas, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and outdoor space. Airbnb says the first five photos matter most, and on Craigslist the first photo is the one people see while browsing.
Should I use my phone's wide-angle lens?
Use it sparingly. The ultra-wide lens fits a whole small room in one frame, but it stretches edges and can make a room look bigger than it is, which guests notice. Shoot from a corner at chest height with the standard lens where you can, and keep vertical lines upright.
What's the best time of day to photograph a rental?
Daytime with plenty of natural light, usually mid-morning or mid-afternoon on a bright day. Open blinds, switch on lamps for warmth, and avoid direct sun streaming into the lens. Save one twilight exterior shot for last; they often make strong cover photos.

Multiple properties and platforms

Can I use the same photos on every platform?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to keep listings consistent. What changes between platforms is the size, crop and file limit, not the photos. Add your set once, tick the platforms you list on, and download one ZIP with a folder for each.
How should I organise photos for several properties?
Run one batch per property and rename the ZIP after the property as soon as it downloads. Inside, each platform has its own folder, and files keep your original names with the platform added, like kitchen-airbnb.jpg. Keep your untouched originals in a separate folder so you can export again whenever requirements change.
How do I keep listings consistent across Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com?
Keep one master set of photos per property and, when something changes, update every platform from that set. Match titles, amenities and house rules the same way. Photos are only half the job: availability has to match across platforms too.
How do I keep calendars in sync across platforms?
Most hosts connect Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com with iCal calendar links, so a booking on one blocks the dates on the others after the next refresh. Our guide to iCal explains how to set it up and check that it's working.

Privacy and pricing

Are my photos uploaded or stored?
No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your photos aren't uploaded to DirectBookingHost or anywhere else, and nothing is kept after you close the page. Our analytics record how the tool is used, such as how many photos were processed, but never file names or image content.
Is location data removed from exported photos?
Yes. Phone photos often contain hidden details such as the GPS location where they were taken. Exported photos are newly created images, so none of that information is copied over: guests won't see your address or camera details in the files.
